February 11, 2012 - 8pm
All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church

From eastern Europe to the United States, by way of inspiration gleaned in the churches of Rome, the music of today is more than global, nearly approaching the cosmic. Anchoring this concert is the remarkable Clarinet Quartet of Krzysztof Penderecki, composed in 1993. Andrew Norman's string trio Sabina shimmers with sonic resonance and Lansing McLoskey's longingly melancholic Processione di lacrime allows the players to perform in different tempi simultaneously – “like two people dreaming of dancing together…but never actually dancing in real life.” Local composers Ingrid Stölzel, whose new trio For the Time Being, and Nick Omiccioli, whose Invisible Worlds, offer works receiving their Kansas City premieres.

  1. Andrew Norman – Sabina (2006)

    string trio

  2. Nick Omiccioli – Invisible Worlds (2009)

  3. Krzysztof Penderecki – Clarinet Quartet (1993)
