Mark Lowry

Percussionist Mark Lowry enjoys working in a wide variety of musical situations. As an orchestral musician, he performs with the Kansas City Symphony, the Kansas City Ballet (formerly State Ballet of Missouri), and the Lyric Opera of Kansas City. In the realm of chamber music he is timpanist with the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra (an orchestra specializing in Baroque and Classical repertoire) and percussionist with newEar contemporary chamber ensemble.

Mr. Lowry is a founding member of newEar, serving the group not only as a percussionist but also as a composer. newEar has performed his Creation for percussion solo, sign interpreter, and narrator; Marimbadzah for marimba; and Trio with Passacaglia for marimba, viola, and bass clarinet.

His percussion group Tri-Percussion gives dozens of in-school educational concerts each year under the auspices of Young Audiences, Inc. These programs are targeted to specific grade levels and cover a variety of musical styles and activities, including an historical program presenting fife and drum music of the Revolutionary and Civil Wars.

His studio credits include many soundtrack recordings for the Missouri Repertory Theatre. Mr. Lowry has served on the faculty of Central Methodist College and is currently active as a clinician in Missouri and Kansas. For twelve summers he served on the summer faculty of the International Music Camp, where he helped to develop courses of study in percussion and music theory.
